Main function of UBEC is to convert voltage from a two cell or a three cell that is 7.4V and 14.8V to 6V or 5V. This can be changed by a switch. Some devices like large size servos, high torque servo, landing gears, lighting system on aircraft or providing voltage to flight controller all these require power to operate. If we take power from ESC there are chances of voltage deregulation. These devices may take more power than an ESC can provide. Most of the ESC gives 3A as power.

In such a senario you need a seperate power device. This device takes input directly from a battery. In certain applications you can keep seperate battery for flight controls like elevator, rudder and aelieron. Even if the brushless motors drains your battery your aircraft will still have controls as it takes from other battery.
